The SETI Institute announced recently that the first SETICon will be held on August 13-15 2010 at Santa Clara in California. This event is dedicated to the general public and will give the possibility to meet the SETI Institute scientists and their colleagues and learn about our research and goals.
To celebrate science and exploration, to learn about the SETI research and to meet the main players of this project, the SETICon will take place at the Hyatt Regency of Santa Clara, CA, USA. The goal is to reach all kind of public from 5th graders interested in science to enthusiasts and hard core scientists, the SETI team organized 4 simultaneous sets of programs (from the SETICon website):”
* main programming panels that will include scientists, astronauts, and science-fiction movie/series actors
* hard core science talks and panels similar to paper or poster presentations at a scientific conference
* an education panel/talk track interspersed with hands-on activities for young people
* a series of individual speakers in Q&A sessions, with no set talk but fielding questions from their audience.
This year brings the 50th anniversary of SETI research, the 25th anniversary of the SETI Institute, and much growing momentum in the scientific community about the likelihood of life beyond Earth.”
The list of guests is impressive and includes scientists, actors, writers, and astronauts. I may be there as a volunteer as well. 🙂 You can already buy your tickets (from $15 to $1000) on the SETICon website.
The entire SETI Institute team hopes to see you there.
