“Seeing is believing” or better “dreaming is believing”… The Four Dimensional Digital Universe Project (4D2U Project) & National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) released one year ago a superb video about Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT).
This gigantic and ambitious telescope located on the top of the Mauna Kea in Hawaii, is shown in the context of already existing telescopes, including the today Giants, such as the twin W.M. Keck telescopes and the Gemini North and Subaru Telescopes.
This is not a recent news but since I have been often looking for this video when someone comes to my office and asks me about the TMT. Consequently I decided to post a link to it on my blog and share it with you. Unfortunately the video is not available on Youtube/Vimeo, so I can’t even embed in this post. It is available on the Facebook page of the TMT (here).
Hopefully in a few months, we will know if the project is selected for funding by NSF. A call was released recently and the proposals are due on April 12. It is very likely that there will be at least two competitive proposals (TMT and the Giant Magellan Telescope) but one winner unfortunately.
Waiting for the news, you can enjoy the video and dream about it.
Clear skies
