Well, here we are edging towards spring and what does the weather decide to go and do??? SNOW!!! Its freezing here at the moment and being a resident in a northern british town next to the pennines (that means high hills to you lot who don’t know what the pennines are!) it can only mean more horrid weather is on the way. So I am not looking forward to flying down the street at 9am when I attempt to leave the house to take Alexander to school, as Manchester City Council are refusing to grit the roads again. If I wanted to go skiing I would have got myself a tobagon seeing as the roads are so slippy. There goes my chance of testing out my new binoculars! Apparently there is a comet nearing visibility with the naked eye that should be visible around now and I wanted to catch a glimpse, if it turns out to give a spectacular display like Comet Hale Bopp did, that will be really something for IYA 2009!!!

It’s only snowing a little bit here in the South West… we want more, so we can build snowmen!
Surely there must be some more snow now in the South West, its snowing cats and dogs here! I’d be tempted to go sledging but its too cold! I made some snowballs this morning but only to get some kids back who decided to try and get me on the way to the library Sotira 2 kids 0
Dear Sotira,
The comet you’re referring to is Comet Lulin C/2007 N3 — please check the blog entry I posted a week or so ago.
Don’t expect a Hale-Bopp! It might reach 5th magnitude around the end of this month, if we’re lucky. Right now it’s about magnitude 6.5 (easy in binoculars from a dark site).
Sincerely,
Alan
