The next talk at the session on astronomical heritage is by Professor Gudrun Wolfschmidt, Germany, Cultural Heritage of Astronomical Observatories. This subject is relates to my local astronomical observatory inManchester which celebrated its centenary in 2003 (the Godlee Observatory).

Astronomical Observatories, around 1800, Gotha (1788) held the international congress of observatories.
Tartu Observatory in Estonia and Lisnon Observatory in Portugal (1861). The (old) Hambueg Observatory was a showcase for a double dome observatory. Architeture of Observatories; St Petersburg Observatory in Russia, in 1839, had three domes. Nice Observatory in 1888 featured a park of observatories in an isolated place away from the city.
