Visit to Vandenberg

WISE held a management team meeting at Vandenberg Air Force Base on Friday Aug 21. So I drove the 145 miles (230 km) from UCLA up to Lompoc, the closest town, and then another 8 miles (13 km) to the main gate. From the gate it is about 6 miles (10 km) to the facility where WISE is being prepared for launch. The actual launch site, SLC-2 (Space Launch Complex 2) , is about 2 miles (3 km) further. After the meeting where the WISE team planned for the next 3 months, I went over the look in the clean room where the WISE flight battery was being charged, and then over to SLC-2, and finally to the Mission Control room where I will be sitting during the launch.
