Hi all,
Yesterday I returned from a fantastic holiday. I hiked the south part of the Pennine Way from Edale to Horton-in-Ribblesdale and it was great to be out there and enjoy nature.
The Cosmic Diary is not just about astronomy. It's more about what it is like to be an astronomer.
The Cosmic Diary aims to put a human face on astronomy: professional scientists will blog in text and images about their lives, families, friends, hobbies and interests, as well as their work, their latest research findings and the challenges that face them. The bloggers represent a vibrant cross-section of female and male working astronomers from around the world, coming from five different continents. Outside the observatories, labs and offices they are musicians, mothers, photographers, athletes, amateur astronomers. At work, they are managers, observers, graduate students, grant proposers, instrument builders and data analysts.
Throughout this project, all the bloggers will be asked to explain one particular aspect of their work to the public. In a true exercise of science communication, these scientists will use easy-to-understand language to translate the nuts and bolts of their scientific research into a popular science article. This will be their challenge.

Hi all,

Hi all,
Last two weeks, I have been working only partly as my brother came over to visit me. Nevertheless, I finished a new draft of the paper I have been working on for the last couple of weeks and I am ready to go on holiday, which will start in a few hours…..
Hi all,
This was such a week were you have been busy all week, but when asked what I have done, I don’t know…. Hopefully, I will see the return of the work in the next weeks….
Hi all,
My parents came over to the UK for the last 10 days and we spend time together on the last two weekends which was really wonderful. Apart from that I have been working, but nothing really special. Although working at my office in summer is kind of special, as I travelled a lot during the past few summers….
Hi all,
Last week was a very productive and sunny week. Not only the weather was very nice but life is very beautiful when things work out as you want them.
Hi all,
Again a short week of only 4 days this week, but it was a busy one. I had several appointments and the University open days took place, but I think it was a successful week, with a paper accepted and one ‘finished’ to submit.
Hi all,
Just back from my trip to Vienna. It was interesting to attend the Brite meeting. This was not only about science, but politics is also important, which is new to me. I met some interesting people and even had some time to visit a museum.
Hi all,
The Santa Fe meeting was interesting, although not all talks were given as well as they should have been. My talk went OK and I was happy with that! After the conference, I went with three friends to Bandelier national park and to Washington D.C.. This was a great (but short) holiday!!
Hi all,
Last week with only 4 working days was rather busy, but also very satisfactory, with one paper resubmitted, another one nearly ready to be submitted and some good discussions.
Hi all,
Finally, the paper I am co-author on appeared in Nature last Thursday! Nature is the highest ranked journal you can publish in and it is great that my name is in there now!
