Meet the astronomers. See where they work. Know what they know.

The Project:

The Cosmic Diary is not just about astronomy. It's more about what it is like to be an astronomer.

The Cosmic Diary aims to put a human face on astronomy: professional scientists will blog in text and images about their lives, families, friends, hobbies and interests, as well as their work, their latest research findings and the challenges that face them. The bloggers represent a vibrant cross-section of female and male working astronomers from around the world, coming from five different continents. Outside the observatories, labs and offices they are musicians, mothers, photographers, athletes, amateur astronomers. At work, they are managers, observers, graduate students, grant proposers, instrument builders and data analysts.

Throughout this project, all the bloggers will be asked to explain one particular aspect of their work to the public. In a true exercise of science communication, these scientists will use easy-to-understand language to translate the nuts and bolts of their scientific research into a popular science article. This will be their challenge.

SUN day in CiWalk

seems like the post I posted from Ciwalk through my mobile phone never show up. So may be it was failed. So I will write it again. Today we all go to Cihampelas Walk Mall (CiWalk mall) to share about astronomy with people there.CiWalk mall is a mall with open area concept.

We start on 11 am. It was a crazy time…but fun indeed.

There was a boy name Rafi. He helped us so much. In fact he join us to deliver our newsletter to people who passing by. He came from Jakarta with his parents to join our 100HA event.. And seems like he did enjoy his time being with us.It looked like he never tired and had all the energy within him.

And for the SUN day itself, the event went really well. People who walked nearby became interest with our instruments and wonder what we did in here. They started to ask. we put our instrument in Broadway street in front of restaurants, so waitress from there also interested with our equipment. And begin to ask. Couples, family, or people who walked around join us to observe the Sun with sun glasses and telescopes. And the weather is nice also….

We also displayed our You Are Galileo Telescopes. People wonder why there are a small telescope like that and asked for the price. In their mind, telescope is an expensive stuff. But because we have no solar filter attach on You Are Galileo telescopes, we point all You Are Galileo telescopes to distant object.

Many journalists came too and have an interview with us about the event. Although we planned to hold the event until 3 pm, at about 1.30pm low altitude cloud covered the Sun.. and it began to rain!.

so we decided to packed … after lunch, we went to karaoke and spent a great time there for about an hour.
